The data resulting from the Product Support Analysis (PSA) process is tailored to a specific format to enhance usability by engineering and product support activities. A subset of this data is called LPD and is defined by industry standard GEIA STD-0007C, Logistics Product Data.

Originally, the standard was issued by the Government Electronics and Information Technology Association (GEIA), but is now published by SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive/Aerospace Engineers). SAE GEIA STD-0007C defines the LPD data generated during the requirements definition and design of an industry or government system, end item, or product. It makes use of the XML through the use of entities and attributes that comprise LPD and their definitions. The standard is designed to provide users with a standard set of data tags for all or portions of LPD.

While SAE GEIA STD-0007C identifies the range of LPD elements that can be generated and exchanged as a result of the supportability analysis conducted during the design, development, and initial fielding of a system or end item, it does not prescribe the supportability analyses required to generate logistics product data. LPD are located in a highly structured and relational database. When developed in accordance with SAE GEIA STD-0007, the LPD would be formatted into over 100 integrated tables/entities of information, interconnected and aligned to supporting PSA activities.
