I didn't even know what a hedge fund -- when I was a kid, I never even heard that term. So just being honest, I think it's easier to break the cycle because you have way more models, role models. Call it what you want. I think when Barack became president of the United States of America, like Chris Rock said, you said, "Hey, you can be whatever you want to be." "Okay. Whatever." When Barack became president of the United States of America, it's like, "Wow." I even think with Trump being president of the United States of America, I'm probably more encouraged than I was with Barack Obama. I'm like, "Wow, this guy didn't take the traditional -- "

Eric Thomas: [00:57:05] You know, man, all of our schools in Michigan have that makeup. You know what I'm saying? I'm sure. And just being from the African-American community, of course, my lens will be totally different, but I would say in terms of just being diverse like the state did it from me. And again, I was a part of the basketball program, part of the football program. Coach Izzo allowed me to come in and do some work, Coach Dan Antonio always opens the door. And so, you know, when you're dealing with sports, it's a different beast. It's more of a comradery.

Eric D. Thomas, MD, FACP, is a board-certified internist (American Board of Internal Medicine) with Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport, Louisiana. Internal medicine physicians treat patients with conditions such as obesity and high blood sugar, blood pressure and total cholesterol. Eric Thomas was born in Chicago, Illinois in September 1970. He was homeless after dropping out of high school. Thomas straightened his life out and got married and graduated from Oakwood University. He worked at Michigan State University and developed the undergraduate retention program Advantage. Eric Thomas served as a senior pastor at A Place of Change Ministries in Lansing, Michigan and earned his master's degree and PhD. He later founded a company offering education consulting, athletic development, and executive coaching. Thomas is known for his motivational speeches for college and professional athletes. He has appeared on Fox News and he was featured on the album Settle by Disclosure and on the album Wins and Losses by Meek Mill. Eric Thomas has authored the books The Secret to Success in 2012, Greatness Is Upon You: Laying the Foundation in 2014, and Average Skill Phenomenal Will in 2016.
